Corus Quay, the new Toronto headquarters for Corus Entertainment, is a 450,000 square foot (42,000 square metre) office and broadcast centre located at the water’s edge in East Bayfront. Canada’s Sugar Beach is located beside the building. Corus Quay was developed by the City of Toronto and the Toronto Port Lands Company and is part of the waterfront revitalization plan. Corus has consolidated 12 different Toronto locations and more than 1,100 employees into one state-of-the-art facility that includes television studios, radio studios, 20+ broadcast feeds and a tapeless, file-based broadcast and production centre, and provides them with a leading-edge, innovative technological infrastructure. The open concept environment fosters interaction, communication and collaboration among employees and creates a more vibrant, flexible and energetic work environment. This new home allowed Corus the opportunity to reengineer their production capabilities from the ground up and build an entirely digital infrastructure based on leading-edge technologies. This has a profound effect on how Corus creates content, distributes it, their asset management system, IT infrastructure and their broadcast facilities. Corus Quay’s Gold Standard LEED certification puts Corus in elite company, alongside some of the greenest buildings in North America – particularly rare for a broadcast centre.

Opened in February of 2011 in the heart of Toronto’s Entertainment district, the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and Residences is Toronto’s finest Five Star mixed-use development. In 2004, the project ownership team of Graywood Developments, Cadillac Fairview, and Ritz-Carlton Hotels sought the design expertise of architects Kohn Pedersen Fox of New York, Page + Steele/IBI Group of Toronto, and structural engineer Halcrow Yolles, of Toronto. The task was to create an iconic structure that exceeds expectations and speaks to the unique nature of Toronto and Canada.
The challenge was to meet the operational requirements and incorporate all the program elements required in a luxury hotel and residential complex within a very constrained site. A number of unique design and construction challenges were overcome with some innovative structural and architectural solutions and features such as:
- Minimizing the mechanical machinery by using Enwave heating and cooling
- Incorporating a 9m long continuous all glass bridge to span the hotel lobby
- Innovative use of concrete and steel to support the cantilevered podium and lightbox.
- Sloped south building face to maximize usable area on the upper floors.
After 4 years of construction, starting in December of 2006, the result is the breathtaking 53 storey tower which incorporates the 20 storey, 267 suite Ritz-Carlton Hotel and the 32 stories containing the 159 Ritz-Carlton Residences. Part hotel, part residence, part art gallery - the building is truly unique and will continue to represent Toronto and Canada well into the future as a global example of luxury and design excellence.
Tour Leaders: Mansoor Kazerouni, M.Arch, OAA, MRAIC, is Executive Vice President of Page+Steele/IBI Group Architects and has 20 years of extensive international experience leading design teams on complex projects.
