enRoute HOTEL DESIGN AWARDS - The launch of Canada’s first Canadian Hotel Design Awards by Air Canada’s enRoute magazine including an awards ceremony at IIDEX on Thursday September 22 @ 4:30 PM in the keynote theatre, as well as a special exhibit. The awards program, launched by enRoute, will celebrate the best Canadian-designed hotels around the world. The winners will be featured in the September 2011 issue of the magazine and at www.enroute.aircanada.com.

HOSPITALITY KEYNOTE - Working with our media sponsor enRoute Magazine, we have developed a unique format featuring enRoute magazine editor-in-chief, Ilana Weitzman interviewing Isadore Sharp, Founder and Chairman of the Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, along with Howard Pharr, President of Hirsch Bedner and Associates from Atlanta, in an informal lounge setting on the keynote stage.

NEWH CANADA A SPONSOR OF HOSPITALITY CANADA - Hospitality Canada, our new show-within-a-show continues to grow with the addition of NEWH Canada, The Hospitality Industry Network as a sponsor. IIDEX will be working closely with NEWH Canada to increase the exposure of hotel, restaurant and hospitality design products and services to design professionals and their clients who actively engage in design, development and management of hotels, restaurants, resorts and senior living properties.

CEU HOSPITALITY CONFERENCE - The keynote program will be complemented by a CEU hospitality conference stream developed in conjunction with NEWH Canada.

DINE BY DESIGN - The all-new and unique Dine by Design event showcases leading restaurants and bars designed by ARIDO and IDC members. Designers will recreate vignettes of their hottest restaurant projects at IIDEX, while attendees will be able to make a reservation to dine at one of the featured restaurants by reserving on-line or at the show.

Welcome to Hotel IIDEX

Another IIDEX first, is the hotel inspired entrance to the exhibit hall where you will be greeted by volunteer concierges from the Junior League of Toronto Doors Open program. Immediately inside the show be sure and pick up your badge holder at the concierge desk.

It is now possible for designers to create any design or image to cover any and all surfaces – floors, walls, ceilings, hardware using HP Latex Ink Technology and 3M Graphic Film. The HOTEL IIDEX entrance was created by Convenience Group, using 3M’s IJ3552C and 8914 luster overlaminate films and printed using HP’s Designjet L25500 large-scale printer.

IDA AWARDS CELEBRATING INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS

Another IIDEX first, the IDA Awards, (International Design Awards) will hold their awards ceremony on the keynote theatre stage on Friday, September 23. The IDA Awards is a bi-yearly event which invites design students from all over the world to create forward-looking, innovative and unusual solutions in furniture design and furniture-making . The awards are sponsored by two leading European manufacturers, HETTICH and REHAU who belive the talents of students should be fostered to showcase the trends and visions of tomorrow.

HOME GROWN TALENT WINS GOLD - The 2010 Awards selected four winners, two of whom are local talent, a group project assignment by the Ontario College Arts & Design, who designed “Wave”, a clever and interactive unit for storing, refrigerating and freezing food.

The second Canadian winner is Mae Shaban from the University of Toronto, who designed “Algeoli”, a concept that recycles spent and dirty air as well as dirty water in small membranes in the user’s direct surroundings. The recycling process is visualized by different light intensities, the LED’s become brighter as system activity increases.

BRINGING THE OUTSIDE IN

IIDEX announces a new partnership with the OALA, the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects. This unique partnership will promote the landscape architecture profession to the design and business communities across Canada and speaks to the trend toward the integration of interior and exterior spaces, as well as the increased collaboration of all building and design professionals on projects. Planning is underway to include an OALA display featuring the winners of the OALA Awards, educational sessions on landscape architecture, as well as increased participation of industry suppliers in a Landscape Pavilion. Visit the Landscape Education booth for trends on integrating interior and exterior spaces, and check out an awe-inspiring installation of Reford Garden/Jarden des Metis’ Algaegarden.

     

Best Buildings

Building Excellence: Toronto and Canada’s Best Green Buildings Exhibit

The best – and most beautiful – high-performance buildings across Canada, such as Corus Quay and the Brickworks, are presented in this exhibit, sponsored by the City of Toronto, IFMA Toronto and Canadian Facility Management & Design Magazine. A supplementary panel discussion will be moderated by Pamela Young, Editor of Canadian Facility Management & Design Magazine.

An exhibit of the Best Buildings will be the centre of an IFMA Toronto Lounge & FM Pavilion of industry suppliers with an emphasis on walls, ceilings and acoustics.

SWIPE BOOKS BRINGS YOU I PICKS at IIDEX/NeoCon Canada

IIDEX/NeoCon Canada in collaboration with Swipe Books, the official bookstore of IIDEX for 2011 have developed a unique addition to the show, I PICKS. IIDEX and SWIPE have selected five leading interior designers and architects from Toronto to pick their top 10 books from the Swipe books extensive collections. These selections will be featured at the show with special displays and signage from each designer or architect. I PICKS participants include:
