CHAIR Hockey Tournament

IIDEX/NeoCon Canada and Interior Designers of Canada (IDC) will host CHAIR Hockey Tournament: a hockey game with a twist, in support of Ronald McDonald House Toronto. Interior Designers, Architects, Facility Managers, Engineers, Sales and A&D reps., will face-off on ergonomic task chairs in an arena located at the heart of the IIDEX/NeoCon Canada Show. Teams will collect points for meeting fundraising targets and get the chance to play a celebrity team in the final championship showdown on September 23.

enRoute Hotel Design Awards Ceremony and Exhibit

Meet the winners of the inaugural enRoute Hotel Design Awards during a special ceremony presented at IIDEX on Thursday, September 22, in Toronto. The event will follow a discussion on hospitality design hosted by enRoute’s Editor-in-Chief Ilana Weitzman and featuring Isadore Sharp, Founder and Chairman of the Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, and Howard Pharr, President of Hirsch Bedner and Associates, in Atlanta.

The enRoute Hotel Design Awards celebrate the best Canadian-designed hotels around the world. Judged by international industry experts Jean-Michel Gathy, Jean Pelland, Todd Saunders and Patricia Urquiola, the awards recognize outstanding achievements by Canadian interior designers and architects working in hospitality.

The winners will be on display at IIDEX/NeoCon Canada and will also be featured in the September issue of enRoute and online at enroute.aircanada.com/hotelawards

IDA AWARDS CELEBRATING INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS

Another IIDEX first, the IDA Awards, (International Design Awards) will hold their awards ceremony on the keynote theatre stage on Friday, September 23. The IDA Awards is a bi-yearly event which invites design students from all over the world to create forward-looking, innovative and unusual solutions in furniture design and furniture-making. The awards are sponsored by two leading European manufacturers, HETTICH and REHAU who believe the talents of students should be fostered to showcase the trends and visions of tomorrow. HOME GROWN TALENT WINS GOLD - The 2010 Awards selected four winners, two of whom are local talent, a group project assignment by the Ontario College Arts & Design and Mae Shaban from the University of Toronto, Please make sure to attend the IDA awards ceremony to celebrate the local winners and learn more about the exciting international student award program. A reception will follow this ceremony in Hettich’s Booth 1107.

Top 5 Under 5 Award Winners

Meet Canada’s next generation of top interior designers—a group of award-winning, up-and-coming Intern/Provisional IDC members who are recommended by their supervisors to submit their designs in IDC’s inaugural, Top 5 Under 5 Awards program.

The Awards, created by a national committee of Provisional and Intern members (better known as EPIC), was designed to highlight the talents of designers within the first five years of their career. Submissions are judged by an international panel of interior designers and award-winning projects will be on display at the EPI-Centre on the IIDEX show floor. Winners will be on-hand each day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to speak to their work and answer your questions.

Top 5 Under 5 winners will be awarded their prize on stage at the IDC Annual Meeting, Friday at 3:30 p.m. – don’t miss this EPIC event.

IDC Annual Meeting

David Hanson, IDC President invites all Interior Designers of Canada members to join him in the keynote theatre, Friday, September 23 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. for the Annual Meeting of the Association. Help us welcome Donna Assaly in her new role as IDC’s 2011/12 President, and celebrate IDC’s first group of Top Five Intern/Provisional Members. Also, get an update on the Association’s activities over the past year and learn what exciting programs are planned for 2011/12.

The past eighteen months of the newly reorganized IDC have been action packed and, from the board’s perspective, extremely successful. It’s your association, be a part of the energy that is IDC. Come join us Friday afternoon to network with fellow members from across Canada in a brief but important national annual meeting.

Architizer Canadian Launch Party

IIDEX/NeoCon Canada and Relative Space are proud to present and host the Canadian launch party for Architizer.com, the social media solution for architecture that connects architects and designers with their fans, clients and the world at large.

Architizer and IIDEX/NeoCon will celebrate Canadian architecture, design and art at the Relative Space showroom. The launch event and toast will include a special event challenging local architects to craft architectural models out of a uniquely Canadian food product. Models will be judged by Architizer founder Marc Kushner and special guest Charles Pachter, the prolific Toronto-based artist, whose work will also be exhibited at the showroom.

Architizer is the planet’s largest user-generated collection of architecture projects; Join us as we celebrate Canadian architecture and design at the Relative Space showroom on Friday evening September 23. This event also serves as a closing party to IIDEX/NeoCon Canada.
