Radiant Dark from MADE
MADE makes its IDEX/NeoCon Canada 2009 debut with a 600 sq. ft. feature exhibit showcasing the best from its Radiant Dark series of exhibitions. The selection brings new ideas and quality works to a wider audience in it's continuing discussion on Canadian design. Julie Nicholson and Shaun Moore of MADE developed the themed exhibitions as a means to explore some of the multifaceted aspects of modern, emerging Canadian design. Conceived out of this series of independent, curated exhibitions; Radiant Dark for IDEX addresses some of the perceived obscurity surrounding the idea of Canadian design and highlights the strength and exuberance to be found within it.
Lighting designs feature as the primary focus of the exhibit and include pieces by Cali Balles and Don Maclennan, Barr Gilmore, Jennifer Graham, molo, Andrew Ooi, Kelly Palmer and Melanie Zanker, Propellor Design, Tamara Rushlow and Orest Tataryn. The light works on display encompass table lamps, standard lamps and pendants to wall works and chandeliers. Many are customisable designs with the inherent potential to translate from the intimacy of residential environments to providing warmth and intrigue to large scale public settings.
Additional furniture and accessories have been selected from a roster of top designers who have previously presented their works for Radiant Dark. Together with the lighting, these objects represent a cross section of the diversity and innovation that is current Canadian design practice. Their designer's backgrounds encompass architecture, craft, graphic design, industrial design and art. The works themselves display a combination of rigorous technical and material investigations, reusable and renewable materials, sustainable practices and the values of traditional craftsmanship.
MADE is a design product company dedicated to representing and promoting the work of emerging Canadian designers. For more about MADE, visit www.madedesign.ca.
