Make sure to attend the “Green” networking event of the year as the Green Building Festival and the World Green Building Summit come together to celebrate sustainable design with an end-of day cocktail reception. This is a unique opportunity to network with leaders in the sustainable design movement from around the world, including speakers, government officials, decision makers and green design experts.

Industry Canada, DX and CME launch their newest research publication, ‘Design for the Environment’. Presented by Philippe Richer and William Nichol, Industry Canada. Sustainable development is becoming a guiding objective of economic and technological advancement as individuals and firms grow more aware of and concerned about their impacts on the environment. Design for Environment (DfE) is one aspect of this overarching objective of sustainable development. DfE focuses on improving environmental impacts over a product life cycle by incorporating environmental considerations into product design. In today’s complex business environment, the extent to which fi rms use DfE practices is a key determinant of their competitiveness. This presentation will include the latest research and overview of key findings.

Linda Lewis, DX Founding President and Retired Chair, Fashion, Ryerson University and Susan Roth King, Dean, Faculty of Design, OCAD present the latest research regarding Design Strategy and Policy in Canada. As co-chairs of the Design Policy Committee, Linda and Susan will review the latest research regarding community opinions and outline the goals of the Design Policy committee.

Gilbert’s LLP, expert lawyers in trademarks and patents have a history rooted in advocacy, regulatory negotiations, government relations, and ‘bet the company’ intellectual property challenges, across borders. A lawyer from Gilbert’s will discuss challenges with patents and trademarks in Canada and worldwide.

Each presentation will last approximately 10-15 minutes with audience Q & A to follow. Discussion will be moderated by Samantha Sannella, President and CEO of the DX.

Join in the traditional end-of-day celebration as the IIDEX/NeoCon Canada show floor shifts into hospitality mode. Meet up with friends and colleagues while touring the exhibit floor prior to the ARIDO Awards celebration, which takes place at the Liberty Grand immediately following the cocktail reception.

IIDEX/NeoCon Canada and Canadian Interiors magazine are pleased to announce the 12th Annual Best of Canada Design Awards Celebration! This year brings exciting changes to the Best of Canada Design Awards Program. Not only will outstanding designs be recognized in several categories but, for the first time ever, winners will be announced at the special awards celebration instead of beforehand!

The celebration—part of the 25th annual IIDEX/NeoCon show—takes place September 25 from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Join the industry to see the outstanding work of the finalists, share a little cheer, and enjoy some savoury hors d’oeuvres in a lively atmosphere of celebration.

This year’s awards will be emceed by Glen Baxter from CTV media. With a knack for inflecting just the right amount of humour into events, Baxter will ensure the Awards are timely and interesting for everyone.

The IES Toronto section presents Light and Art as this year’s theme of the Light Canada Gala. The 2009 Gala will celebrate award winning lighting designs plus special programming on the fusion of light and art in design today. This is an illuminating evening filled with great entertainment, gourmet food and maybe a few surprises.
