Tomorrow’s Products from Today’s Materials

Material World will showcase the latest new and sustainable materials from emerging Toronto and Canadian companies plus feature an interactive feature exhibit, Tomorrow's Products From Today's Materials, developed by Material Connexion, specifically for IIDEX.

The impact of materials on our lives cannot be understated: on the grandest scale, the manner in which people around the world utilize the natural resources of our planet will determine the future of its survival. On a much smaller scale, but equally important, is the single decision to use a material that is "better" for the job - be it one that produces less material waste, is itself made from materials that would have otherwise been discarded, or one that creates a more efficient product. One decision such as that can have a far-reaching effect.

Tomorrow's Products from Today's Materials feature exhibit is based on a calendar theme with each of the 52 "weeks" representing a material or a product derived from that material. The exhibit will explore a wide variety of design themes: sustainability, integrated technology, nanotechnology, and many more. The majority of the conceptual products will be drawn from the world of interiors and furniture, but we will also include other design disciplines as we believe that some of the best ideas come from unfamiliar territory.

Light Canada EXPO and Conference Expands

IIDEX/NeoCon Canada in partnership with the Illuminating Engineering Society, Toronto Section (IES) will showcase the latest in interior, exterior, commercial and architectural lighting products plus lamps and lighting controls in 15,000 square feet of exposition space. With over 100 new Canadian and international exhibitors "Light Canada " will deliver not only cutting edge design, but will also showcase the monumental advances in sustainable lighting, LED technology, new materials and advances in lighting design.

Light Canada 2008 Highlights:

• Lighting Keynote Abhay Wadhwa of AWA Lighting Designers will present an innovative multi-media keynote address
• Special CEU accredited seminar stream developed by industry experts covering all aspects of lighting design, applications, technology and special case studies designed to ensure seminar attendees are up-to-date on the latest lighting education on lighting design engineering and technology
• 400 square foot Lighting Feature display focused on the integration of sustainable lighting design into the built environment

Greening the Patient Experience

Anshen + Allen's Green Patient Room comes to IIDEX/NeoCon Canada this September showcasing the future possibilities for patient healthcare environments. This feature exhibit is a 400 square foot fully sustainable patient room that demonstrates the latest design concepts with regard to patient wellness and caregiver safety. The Green Patient Room emphasizes the need for creating healing environments that deinstitutionalize healthcare, encourage family visits and care, reduce stress for staff, and cultivate well-being and comfort for all users.

The design of this room embraces the idea that green materials and technologies can be economically viable, readily available and appropriate for use in intensive healthcare settings. It also shows how a healing environment improves the quality of life for patients, staff and family when based on best practices and evidence-based design.

Adjacent to the Green Patient Room at IIDEX/NeoCon Canada 2008 will be a new Healthcare Pavilion that showcases the latest products and services for healthcare design.

In addition, a Healthcare Symposium will be presented covering all aspects of the patient experience including sustainable healthcare design, infection control, the international perspective on healthcare design, and ageing in place among many other topics.

Canühome to Become Feature Exhibit at IIDEX/NeoCon Canada 2008

Making it's debut to Canada's design and architectural community as a feature exhibit at IIDEX/NeoCon Canada 2008 in September, the canühome exhibit is a full-sized home that meets LEED® standards and spotlights the latest in sustainable living.

The canühome incorporates many new design innovations to improve your indoor air quality, decrease energy bills and help the environment with the canühome sustainable living is right around the corner. Built entirely with FSC certified wood products the canühome definitely exhibits intelligent and universal design principles and provides options that will maximize quality of life while minimizing the ecological footprint by decreasing energy, water and resource usage.

The canühome was designed by George Brown College's Institute without Boundaries (IwB) and incorporates the fundamental design principles identified through the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) Equilibrium, Healthy Housing and FlexHousing initiatives. By using FSC certified wood products the canühome is eligible to receive green financial tools available from CMHC and TD Canada Trust.

The canühome promotes sustainable living through:

• Improved indoor air and environment quality
• Reduced ecological footprint through energy, water and resource efficiency
• Universal, accessible and adaptable design to meet changing needs
• Inherent affordability - lasting longer, costing less to operate, and easier to finance

To enhance the canühome experience IIDEX/NeoCon Canada will feature a seminar program built specifically around the ideas showcased in the canühome. Seminar topics will include energy management, sustainable construction, wellness, universal design, aging in place and sustainable design.
