With ever increasing energy and environmental concerns and advancements in light source technologies, it is essential for the lighting designer to understand the pros and cons of the various source options. We will explore the strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities associated with incandescent, fluorescent, ceramic metal halide and LEDs. By analyzing the tasks and objectives in each space and applying various layers of light with the most desirable light source options, we can produce art in even the most routine spaces. Together we’ll answer the latter part of the basic lighting design question. What to light and how to light it?

Speaker: Tom Butters has been in the lighting industry for over 20 years. He is the Director of Canlyte’s Lighting Concept Centre and a Canlyte Certified Lighting Facilitator. He is certified as a Core CEU speaker on 8 topics with both the Ontario Association of Architects and the Architectural Institute of British Columbia.
