This interactive presentation, using PowerPoint and physical, generic product samples, will show participants how to 1) identify ways in which optics can impact luminaire performance, 2) create lighting designs that use specific lighting distributions, and 3) select lighting equipment appropriate for achieving their design objectives. This session offers an element of humour with some photos of misapplied lighting, but this is tempered with an equal number of excellent lighting projects for the instruction of the participants. After the session, a specifier will be able to recognize easily a ‘glary’ downlight.
