This seminar will familiarize attendees with federal government energy-efficiency and renewable-energy initiatives, including: incentive programs for building retrofitting and renewable energy; new building design validation (in support of LEED energy-efficiency prerequisites and credit points); and training initiatives, including training in building energy simulation (EE4), retrofit analysis (RETSCreen) and energy management. Program status will be provided and advice will be offered on applying to the incentive programs. Interaction between NRCan programs and others, such as LEED New Construction, LEED Existing Building, LEED Commercial Interiors, LEED Core and Shell, as well as local Toronto programs, will be discussed.
Speaker: Grant Miles is senior officer for Ontario with Stakeholder Relations in the Buildings Division of Natural Resources Canada’s Office of Energy Efficiency. Since joining the division, Grant has developed regional and national partnerships, which have resulted in workshops, including “Building Commissioning for New and Existing Buildings” with the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers, and two new “Municipal Energy Management” workshops with the Association of Municipalities of Ontario. A former science teacher, Grant graduated from the University of Western Ontario and Ontario’s Fanshawe College.
