This seminar will cover the highlights of what it means to be an architect today. The key role architects play in fostering excellence in design and the built environment will be presented, with an emphasis on the importance of sustainable design. The wide range of project types and design solutions that architects are involved in with will be explored, together with case studies to help people develop an understanding of the interactive process of design. Personal experiences will be outlined, and advice will be offered on steps to becoming an architect and preparation needed for this challenging profession.
Speakers: Phil Goodfellow, BA, M.Arch., LEED AP, recently joined Toronto-based Montgomery Sisam Architects where he has become an integral part of the Mount Sinai IVF Clinic project, in Toronto. As vice-chair of the Toronto Society of Architects (TSA), Phil is actively involved and invested in the development of Toronto’s architectural landscape. He sits on the TSA Guide Map Committee and has been a member of Toronto Mayor David Miller’s Roundtable on a Beautiful City.
Susan Spencer Lewin, OAA, MRAIC, LEED AP is a Principal with CS&P Architects Inc. She is a professional architect with an extensive background in the design of educational and institutional buildings, with an emphasis on civic and urban landscape projects. She is currently managing the North Toronto Collegiate Institute Redevelopment, a replacement secondary school and high rise residential development, and is facilitating an integrated design process for this project, targeting LEED Gold certification. Susan is an executive member of the Toronto Society of Architects, and is an active with the Canada Green Building Council Toronto Chapter.
