Let’s reflect on the situation of the logo in marketing and communications. From Naomi Klein to management consultants, logos are criticized for being overemphasized in the marketplace. A brand is not a logo. But, if a brand is the story of an organization or offering, the logo is the tool that connects people to a brand. John Furneaux will look at how graphic designers develop logos and what makes a successful brand identity. He will also look at how other design professions can work more effectively with graphic designers to ensure a client’s brand comes to life consistently, from product to environment.
Speaker: John Furneaux, RGD provides executive-level guidance in planning, strategy development and creative solutions for the Toronto office of Identica – Cossette’s Brand Design Group. With 20 years experience, John has lead numerous corporate brand identity, communications and marketing programs for leading North American organizations across a wide range of sectors. Some of these have included BMO Financial Group, Milestones Restaurants, Purolator Courier, Queen’s University, Shoppers Drug Mart, Stratford Shakespeare Festival, and TV Ontario. A globally award-winning designer by background, John also is Past President of the Association of Graphic Designer of Ontario (RGD Ontario), Chair of the George Brown College Design Management Advisory Board and is an active speaker and contributor in the development of the Canadian Graphic Design Industry.
