Ontario’s Design Industry Advisory Committee (DAIC), a cross-disciplinary think tank and design research group, established by the City of Toronto in 2001, will present a panel discussion on green issues.
Speakers:
Janna Levitt, BA, B.Arch, is partner with Levitt Goodman Architects. She is an adjunct professor at the University of Waterloo School of Architecture and a former member of the City of Toronto Public Art Commission. She plays an active role in all work produced by the firm.
Jean-Pierre Lacroix is president of Shikatani Lacroix Brandesign. He is past president of RGD Ontario, past president of DIAC and former director of the Packaging Association of Canada. In 2002, he co-authored The Business of Graphic Design: A Professional’s Handbook.
Jonathan Loudon is a member of the executive board of the Associated of Chartered Industrial Designers of Ontario and a managing partner at Cooler Solutions, a Toronto-based product design firm working for Fortune 500 companies and niche businesses. He holds an industrial design degree from Carleton University.
Bernard Hellen graduated from the Richard Ivy School of Business Administration at the University of Western Ontario. He started his career in advertising with Ogilvy & Mather Direct and founded Traffic Marketing + Design in 1994, where he is currently president. As area leader with HOK’s Sustainable Design Group in Toronto, Sandra Lester works with market sector teams to identify sustainable design opportunities and develop sustainable targets and strategies. She holds a B.Tech in architectural science from Ryerson University.
The panel will be moderated by Arlene Gould, a design educator, researcher and consultant who has been championing the economic and social value of design for over 20 years. She is DIAC’s strategic director and is an adjunct professor at York University. Arlene holds an MBA and is the author of “Design Matters: DIAC Design Industry Study,” a landmark study of Ontario’s design capability.
