The Power of Knowledge!
Building on last year’s theme of SPACE, IIDEX/NeoCon Canada has integrated three core themes for our 2006 show, the ideas of space, knowledge and sustainability. Every day interior designers, architects, facility managers and their clients face the challenges of a rapidly changing world in which we work, live and play. This year’s show and conference will ensure every attendee finds all the building blocks necessary to create spaces that reflect the best our industry has to offer.
As Canada’s largest exposition and conference for the design, construction and management of the built environment, IIDEX/NeoCon Canada attracts over 15,000 attendees from across Canada and the bordering states who are active members of the design, architectural and business communities. By delivering the latest products, combined with unique programming and special industry events, IIDEX offers unlimited opportunities to be inspired, educated and entertained. Whatever your focus - Workplace, Retail, Facility Management, Healthcare, Hospitality, Residential, Sustainable Design or Architecture - you’ll discover the products, people and solutions you need at IIDEX/NeoCon Canada 2006.
As a “Space of Knowledge” IIDEX/NeoCon Canada offers attendees and exhibitors an opportunity to network and share their knowledge and insights of what it means to work, live and play in the built environment. This idea dovetails perfectly with ARIDO’s new promotional campaign “Make Space for Good Design”, which illustrates the numerous benefits of using professional interior designers in both commercial and residential applications. So whether your focus is a workspace, livingspace or a space to relax, interior designers, architects and their clients are creating, changing and adapting spaces everyday. This year’s exposition and conference reflect this sentiment while focusing on how to achieve these goals in a sustainable manner.
So please join us and enjoy a new space for your professional growth.

“We have an ongoing R&D program that investigates new and traditional materials for the purpose of discovering other viable applications. Each new development is prototyped and introduced at IIDEX. The Canada Designs Program provides exposure to potential international markets. Over all we received approximately 60 qualified leads. These are people that wanted to get more information on our product for future projects. Four of those had an immediate project application that required a quotation right away”.

“Our experience at IIDEX was very positive. The event was the perfect stage of us to launch our new LEED® for Commercial Interiors Rating System and deliver our first “LEED® Canada-CI” introduction session. The media event went without a hitch and CaGBC benefited from the opportunity to interact directly with interior designers and strengthen our connections to that important community. We are very grateful to the IIDEX and ARIDO staff for their support and advice in making this years show a great success”!

“IIDEX/NeoCon Canada showcases the tools that we use on a daily basis in our business and allows us to one-stop-shop for new products, new services and new offerings. I go every year and I find the show is very well organized and easy to access. We support it as a firm; we pay for our entire 30-person staff to attend. Some of our people go to as many as three different seminars and also attend the keynote addresses. We see it as an investment in our future as well as theirs.”
Christopher Wright, ARIDO
Partner, figure3 Network, Toronto
“I like the dialogue that happens in the seminars, and I view attending the show as continuing education. Whenever I have gone, it’s been productive – I’ve picked up useful information about design and materials. We encourage all of our staff to attend. We also have someone in our firm who’s very focused on interiors; she goes to the show and shares what she learns with other staff members.”
David Sisam,
Principal, Montgomery Sisam Architects, Toronto
“IIDEX/NeoCon Canada is the largest facility management-style show in Canada. As president of IFMA Toronto, I need to disseminate the new ideas that are showcased at IIDEX to my chapter members, and of course these ideas are also useful to me in my own practice. In my opinion, the merger of the CFM&D Expo and Conference with IIDEX/NeoCon Canada has been exceptionally valuable to people in facilities management. It used to be that we would be almost required to attend two different shows. Now there’s just the one show to attend, and that eases our corporate budget. I think the merger has also made the interrelationships between facilities management and interior design and space planning much clearer.”
John Vinken,
Toronto Chapter IFMA President
“All exhibitors showed high-quality innovative products with a special emphasis on green solutions. Established manufacturers well known in the USA were shown alongside companies we were not so familiar with - this was very important to expand our knowledge of resources available to us. Overall I felt the show opened many doors to networking with Canadian designers and manufacturers as well as providing better knowledge of resources gives us new alternatives when considering products and services”.
Eric Engstrom FIIDA

“The show was actually more than I expected. It was eye opening to see new products and materials, the latest product designs and new sources for products and materials from Canada. There is no doubt in my mind, after attending IIDEX NeoCon Canada that there are plenty of opportunities to use these products on upcoming projects”.

“The 2006 show was a great opportunity to find manufacturers and suppliers of environmentally friendly products, including a great special feature the Sustainable Condo which greatly enhanced my understanding as well as the availability of green products”.

“I think it is very important for our firm to keep in touch with the Canadian Design Industry, especially since we know have 4 Canadian offices as our head office in Buffalo is so close to the border. Our firm operates as many others do on a single-firm/multi office philosophy, which means we often share projects between offices, so it’s very important that our US based staff become more familiar with leading Canadian manufacturers and suppliers. At IIDEX/NeoCon Canada I was exposed to products and suppliers that I was not familiar with which I will be adding to our design library”.

“I find IIDEX/NeoCon Canada to be a great opportunity to connect with other Canadian professionals and industry members. It’s important to have a uniquely Canadian show and conference to support the Canadian design profession. The seminars and speakers provide inspiring and useful information and the networking opportunities are invaluable. We try to send a designer from each of our offices to IIDEX/NeoCon Canada every year, in addition to our interior design principals. We feel that our designers acquire new product knowledge and bring back new ideas.”

“We were very impressed by the high quality and diversity of the exhibitors at the show. We will be printing a three part series highlighting the products and special events in our magazine which is the #1 design journal in Mexico”.

Demystifying Green
Confused? Too many green programs and too little time to figure it all out? Well IIDEX/NeoCon Canada makes it easy with our new Specifiers Guide to Green Accreditations Program. Working with environmental consultants Blue Wilderness Management Group and the Athena Institute, IIDEX/NeoCon Canada has developed a new tool kit for specifiers to easily evaluate the various “Green” accreditation labelling programs used by manufacturers. We encourage all visitors to IIDEX/NeoCon Canada to review the attached PDF’s so that you may make informed decisions when specifying Green.
We are pleased to offer two “tools” to make specifying green simpler and easier:
Guilt Free Attendance
IIDEX/NeoCon Canada Sets a New Standard for Trade Shows in Canada!
IIDEX/NeoCon Canada has formed strategic alliances with the following not-for-profit organization to offset the environmental impact of the show.
Reducing the Impact of Printing Through Paper Offsets
Zerofootprint - In addition to switching all of our printing program to 100% post consumer, recycled paper, chlorine free, FSC approved paper and printing methods, we are pleased to announce that all IIDEX/NeoCon Canada printed materials have qualified for a unique new paper offsets program from Zerofootprint.
When a printed piece carries the Zerofootprint seal, it signifies that the natural resources used to create it have been restored to the environment in the appropriate proportions:
- Trees have been planted in responsibly managed forests;
- Ancient forests have been protected and conserved;
- Watersheds have been restored;
- Carbon has been purchased to offset GHG emissions created through the manufacturing, printing and transporting of printed materials.

IIDEX clears the way for Clean Air Pass Credits
Based on last year’s IIDEX/NeoCon Canada’s attendance, 288 tonnes of greenhouse gases (CO2e) were created by attendees traveling to the show by car and air travel. When an individual or company purchases a cleanairpass the revenue is used to purchase an equivalent quantity of emission reduction credits called “offsets” to compensate for this damage. The money collected goes towards energy conservation initiatives, technological improvements that lower emissions, or the development of clean renewable energy technologies like wind turbines. Cleanairpass is also offered through Tree Canada Foundation (TCF). TCF plants trees in urban areas, which traps carbon makes our air cleaner.
Cleanairpass is pleased to sponsor IIDEX/NeoCon Canada this year by offsetting the carbon emissions created by attendees traveling to this year’s show. Please visit the Cleanairpass exhibit in the Green Boulevard where we have a special offer for IIDEX/NeoCon Canada attendees. And don’t forget to check us out at www.cleanairpass.com to find out more ways to offset your emissions trail.
