MaRS
MaRS was created in 2000 by a group of visionary business and community leaders concerned about Canada’s performance in the innovation economy. By fortunate coincidence, the site of the old Toronto General Hospital was for sale as part of a redevelopment plan of the University Health Network, and the MaRS College of Founders took the initiative of securing the land to build a convergence centre. This became the physical anchor for the MaRS vision. The MaRS Centre will be a 1.5 million square-foot facility. The Tour will be conducted by:
Nina Gazzola is the Director of Operations and is also responsible for Tenant Relations. She is an integral part of the Real Estate, Property Management Team and the Operations of the MaRS Centre.
Allen Gelberg: Allen Gelberg is Director of the MaRS Collaboration Centre and manages all aspects of the MaRS Collaboration Centre.

SAS Canada Headquarters
SAS Canada’s newly completed corporate headquarters, located at 280 King Street East stands eight storey’s high and features the latest advancements in environmental and architectural design. It is these qualities that are allowing it to become the first commercial office building in Toronto that is LEED* (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) registered.
From the outset, SAS’ vision for the building was clear: apply practical pollution prevention technologies to lower costs and environmental impact, use recycled over raw materials when possible, create a better work environment for SAS employees and revitalize the downtown east community.
True to its promise, today the building uses 30 to 50 percent less energy then that of a comparable building of typical design. Rainwater collected in tanks is treated and reused in the flushing of bathroom fixtures and appliances. Its structural concrete contains a high percentage of recycled material. These are only of few of the ways the new SAS headquarters has implemented their environmentally friendly design; for a complete listing visit www.sas.com/280King.
The tour will be conducted by Jerome McDermott, SAS Canada’s manager of real estate development.

Stratus is a sustainable, innovative winery located in the heart of Niagara wine country in the historic town of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Stratus is dedicated to growing and producing limited quantities of premium wine by adhering to the principles of rigorously low yields and a harvest mandate that relies on hand picking and meticulous attention to fruit selection plus the production of wine based on a true gravity flow system.
Stratus Vineyards is the first building in Canada to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the Canada Green Building Council. Stratus is at present the only winery worldwide to fully achieve this designation. The innovative building was designed by local architect Les Andrew of Andrew Incorporated Architect with a chic tasting room and boutique by Diego Burdi of Burdifilek. A representative of the architecture/design team and the owner of the winery will be present to provide a first hand tour of this world-class facility.
