Nuit Blanche

An All Night Contemporary Art Thing
September 30 / October 1, 2006
7:01 PM to 7:15 AM

Nuit Blanche is a 12 hour contemporary art exhibition commissioned by the City of Toronto. Modeled after the event by the same name in Paris, Nuit Blanche Toronto is at once a “high” art event and a free populous event that embraces the carnival and is accessible to the public. From sunset to sunrise city spaces or neighbourhoods are transformed into temporary exhibition “zones”. Alongside the Nuit Blanche Exhibition presented by the City of Toronto, cultural institutions from museums to artist run centres open their doors and offer free all night access to contemporary art. Unusual or forbidden spaces become sites of contemporary art open for all-night discovery and rediscovery such as parks, swimming pools, libraries, and heritage buildings. Nuit Blanche is a Live With Culture initiative that demonstrates the City of Toronto’s commitment to the arts by raising awareness of Toronto’s thriving cultural scene both locally and internationally.
